U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered two nuclear submarines to undisclosed locations in response to “highly provocative” remarks by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
Trump cited the move as a precaution to protect Americans, warning that words can have serious consequences.
Medvedev had threatened the U.S. after Trump issued ultimatums demanding a ceasefire in Ukraine, warning of sanctions and tariffs.
In return, Medvedev mocked the threats and hinted at Russia’s nuclear retaliation system.
Though the Kremlin has not responded, Russia’s stock market fell sharply.
The exchange of threats and insults between Trump and Medvedev has further heightened tensions between the two nuclear powers.
