Elon Musk has stepped down as head of the “Doge” government efficiency department under the Trump administration.

He criticized Trump’s budget plan for increasing the federal deficit.

Originally aiming to cut $2 trillion, Musk later reduced the goal to $150 billion.

Around 260,000 federal jobs were cut during his term, though some were reinstated by court rulings.

Facing backlash and a drop in Tesla’s stock, Musk announced he would step away from politics and refocus on his companies.
