The Greek government has declared a state of emergency on Santorini after a series of undersea earthquakes, the strongest being a 5.2-magnitude tremor on February 5.

While damage has been minimal, thousands of residents and workers have evacuated to the mainland.

Authorities have mobilized emergency services, closed schools, and secured vulnerable areas. Experts say the quakes are unrelated to volcanic activity but warn that the seismic swarm could escalate. The emergency status remains in effect until March 3.
