Internal documents from former President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign have been leaked following a hacking incident, with Iran being suspected as the culprit, according to Politico.
Among the leaked materials is a vetting report on Senator J.D. Vance, a potential vice-presidential candidate, which highlighted his past criticisms of Trump as “potential vulnerabilities.”
An anonymous source began sending these documents to Politico in July and claims to have additional judicial documents and internal communications from the Trump campaign.
When asked how the documents were obtained, the source declined to answer, citing legal concerns.
Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung accused a foreign adversary, specifically Iran, of illegally obtaining the documents to interfere in the 2024 election.
This accusation follows a report from Microsoft that Iranian hackers infiltrated the accounts of a U.S. presidential campaign official in June, though the specific campaign was not identified.
