Sea Life Sydney Aquarium has reported the sad passing of Sphen, one half of the famous same-sex penguin couple with Magic.
The pair became global icons in 2018 after they successfully raised a chick together, symbolizing love and inclusivity.
Sphen was 11 years old and had been a key part of the aquarium’s Gentoo penguin colony.
Magic is now being carefully observed by the aquarium staff, who will provide updates on his well-being in the near future.
