Boeing workers have rejected a second pay rise offer of 35% over four years, with 64% voting against the deal.
Over 30,000 employees, represented by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), have been on strike since September 13.
The strike adds to Boeing’s financial woes, with recent reports showing $4 billion in losses in its commercial aircraft division and $2.4 billion in its defense unit.
The walkout is costing the company $100 million per day and has led to production slowdowns.
Boeing’s CEO, Kelly Ortberg, acknowledged the challenge of restarting operations once the strike ends and emphasized the need for a cultural shift within the company.
Suppliers like Spirit AeroSystems are also feeling the impact, with furloughs and potential layoffs on the horizon. Despite these challenges, Boeing still has a backlog of 5,400 plane orders.
