The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has achieved a significant breakthrough in the recent Thuringia state elections, securing 32.8% of the vote.
This marks the first time a far-right party has emerged as the strongest force in a German state parliament since World War II.
Despite this win, other major parties, including the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), have rejected the possibility of forming a coalition with the AfD, potentially complicating the party’s path to governance in Thuringia.
