NASA’s Parker Solar Probe will achieve a groundbreaking milestone on December 24, 2024, by approaching the Sun closer than any spacecraft in history.

Traveling at speeds up to 430,000 mph, it will come within 3.8 million miles of the Sun’s surface.

The mission aims to study the Sun’s corona to understand why it is hotter than the surface and explore the origins of solar wind.

Insights from this data could improve predictions of space weather, which impacts Earth’s communication and power systems.

Equipped with a heat-resistant shield, the probe can endure temperatures of 2,500°F. As part of NASA’s Living With a Star program, this mission promises to answer critical questions about our Sun and its influence on the solar system.
