In their first presidential debate of the 2024 election, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump clashed over key issues, including abortion, immigration, and the economy.

Harris criticized Trumpโ€™s record, mocking his rally sizes and financial history, while presenting herself as a unifying leader committed to turning the page on Trump’s “old, tired rhetoric”โ€‹.

Harris focused on policy proposals, like a $50,000 tax deduction for starrtups and a $6,000 child tax credit, contrasting sharply with Trump’s push for extending corporate tax cuts and imposing tariffs, which economists argue could increase consumer costsโ€‹.

Trump, often on the defensive, reiterated his support for a six-week abortion ban and struggled to counter Harris’s pointed criticisms, particularly when he described immigration with controversial comments, suggesting that immigrants were eating household pets like dogs and cats.

Both candidates presented starkly different visions for America’s future, setting the stage for a contentious race as the election approachesโ€‹.
