Paetongtarn Shinawatra has been elected as Thailand’s new Prime Minister, becoming the youngest person to hold the office at 37.

She is the daughter of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and niece of Yingluck Shinawatra, also a former PM.

Her rise to the position signifies a significant return of the Shinawatra family to Thai politics.

Backed by the Pheu Thai party and a coalition controlling the majority in parliament, Paetongtarnโ€™s leadership marks a new chapter for the country’s political landscape.
